The author studies the torsion in the integral cohomology \(H^*(X,\mathbb Z)\) of finite loop spaces \(X\) with maximal torus along the lines of works due to Kac in which the same question was examined for compact Lie groups. In particular, he obtains several equivalent consequences for the existence of \(p\)-torsion in \(H^*(X,\mathbb Z)\). The proofs are purely homotopical and do not rely on special cohomological calculations.
