The notion of residual complexes was given by Grothendieck. It plays a key role in cohomology theory of schemes and commutative rings. However, it is difficult to describe the residual complex explicitly. Indeed, if \(M^\bullet\) is a residual complex of a locally Noetherian scheme, then each \(M^i\) is usually an infinite direct sum of non-coherent sheaves. Let \(f \: Y \to X\) be a morphism of finite type between locally Noetherian schemes and \(M^\bullet\) a residual complex of \(X\). Then the author constructs a residual complex of \(Y\) from \(M^\bullet\) explicitly.
