Given a local field \(F\) with finite residue field of characteristic \(p\), let \(G\) be a connected reductive group over \(F\), and let \(B\) be a minimal parabolic subgroup of \(G\) with Levi decomposition \(B= ZU\). If \(V\) is an absolutely irreducible smooth representation of a special parahoric subgroup \(K\) of \(G\) over a field \(C\) of characteristic \(p\), let \(\mathcal H (G,K,V)\) be the intertwining Hecke algebra of \(V\) in \(G\). In this paper, the authors introduce a natural homomorphism from \(\mathcal H (G,K,V)\) to \(\mathcal H (Z,Z \cap K,V^{U\cap K})\), prove its injectivity, and identify its image. This generalizes a result obtained by \textit{F. Herzig} [Compos. Math. 147, No. 1, 263--283 (2011; Zbl 1214.22004)] who studied the case of characteristic 0 with the assumption that \(G\) is unramified, \(K\) is hyperspecial, and \(C\) is an algebraic closure of the prime field \(\mathbb F_p\). The authors also show that \(\mathcal H (G,K,V)\) need not be commutative, which is in contrast with the cases considered by Herzig and with the more classical case of trivial \(V\) and the field of coefficients \(\mathbb C\).
