Oscillation and non-oscillation of Euler type half-linear differential equations (Q2345504): Difference between revisions

The authors investigate oscillatory properties of second order half-linear differential equation with coefficients having mean values. This covers (among others) broad range of equations with periodic, almost periodic and asymptotically almost periodic coefficients. The main interest is in the case on the tenuous boundary between the oscillatory and nonoscillatory case. In this case the rough comparison methods and other widely used techniques cannot be used and a more advanced approach is necessary. Therefore, the equation studied in the paper has somewhat special form. Namely, the authors study the equation \[ \left[ \left( r_0(t)+\sum_{i=1}^n \frac{r_i(t)}{{\text{Log}}^2_{(i)}(t)} \right)^{-\frac pq} \Phi(x')\right]'+\left[ s_0(t)+\sum_{i=1}^n \frac{s_i(t)}{{\text{Log}}^2_{(i)}(t)} \right]\frac{\Phi(x)}{t^p}=0, \] where \(r_1, \dots, r_{n-1}\), \(R\), \(s_0, \dots, s_{n-1}\), \(S\) are \(\alpha\)-periodic continuous functions and \(r_n\), \(s_n\) are continuous functions for which mean values and mean values of its absolute values exist. The function \(\Phi(x)\) is a signed power type nonlinearity \(\Phi(x)=|x|^{p-1}{\text{sgn}} x\), \(p>1\), \(q=\frac{p-1}p\) and \[ \log_{(1)}t=\log t, \quad \log_{(k+1)}(t)=\log_{(k)}(\log t),\quad {\text{Log}}_{(k)}t=\prod_{i=1}^k\log _{(i)}t. \] Under not harsh conditions on the mean values of the functions under consideration the author obtain sharp condition which separates oscillatory and nonoscillatory case. The novelty of the main result is illustrated on the bunch of corollaries and examples which are simple special cases of the equation under consideration but these particular cases are not solvable using previous results.
