All rings considered in this paper are commutative with identity. First, we recall some definitions. Let \(S\) be a subset of the ring \(R\), the intersection of all maximal ideals containing \(S\) is denoted by \(M_{S}.\) An ideal \(I\) of \(R\) is called a \(z\)-ideal if for each element \(a\in I,\) \( M_{\{a\}}\subset I,\) or equivalently, \(I\) is a \(z\)-ideal if and only if \( I_{z}=I,\) where \(I_{z}\) denotes the smallest \(z\)-ideal containing \(I.\) The ring \(R\) satisfies the ascending chain condition (acc) for \(z\)-ideals if every ascending sequence of \(z\)-ideals of \(R\) stops. In this paper, the author shows that \(R\) satisfies the acc for \(z\)-ideals if and only if it satisfies the acc for \(z-\)prime ideals and any \(z\)-ideal of \(R \) is the intersection of finite number of \(z\)-ideals. Moreover this is equivalent to the fact that each \(z\)-prime ideal is \(z\)-finitely generated In the last section of this paper, the transfer of the acc for \(z\)-ideals from the ring \(R\) to the ring of formal power series \(R[[X]]\) is investigated. More precisely, the author shows that the ring \(R\) satisfies aac for \(z\)-ideals if and only if the ring \(R[[X]]\) does. The case of polynomial ring is also considered with additional hypothesis on the ring \(R. \)
