The authors consider the functional equation \(\sum_{i=1}^n \lambda_i A_i \varphi(x) = f(x)\) on a compact interval \(X \subset \mathbb R\). The operator \(A_i\) is a composition of the unknown function \(\varphi\) with given continuous maps of \(X\) onto \(X\), and the \(\lambda_i\)'s are real constants. The authors discuss existence and uniqueness of increasing Lipschitzian solutions of this equation. The existence is proved by the Schauder fixed point theorem for \(\lambda_i \geq 0\) by assuming \(\sum_{i=1}^n \lambda_i =1\) and some conditions on the shifts. The uniqueness is proved by means of a contractive operator.
