This paper is concerned with the group classification of the two-dimensional shallow water equations with uneven bottom topography. Such a bottom is expressed in terms of an arbitrary function \(H(x, y)\) in Eulerian coordinates \((x, y)\). The paper contains an extensive literature review of previous studies of the same type of equations, with an emphasis on certain aspects of the study. Such comments concern in particular the type of fluid flow coordinates used, the type and the impact of the Coriolis parameter considered, and the method used for finding conservation laws. In the present paper the shallow water equations are reduced to a set of two Euler-Lagrange equations in Lagrangian coordinates while the Coriolis parameter is assumed to be an arbitrary linear function. The group classification done by the direct method yields an extension of the principal symmetry algebra into four new symmetry classes. Conservation laws corresponding to these symmetry classes are found by an application of Noether's theorem and where feasible, the counterpart of these conservation laws in Eulerian coordinates are also given.
