The paper focuses on a new source of rigidity of Anosov diffeomorphisms. It concerns the question of whether having all points regular in the sense of Oseledets implies that the diffeomorphism is smoothly conjugated to its linear model. It is certainly a necessary condition, and in the paper the (local version of the) question is considered in great generality for toral Anosov automorphisms. In particular, it is shown that for Anosov diffeomorphisms which are small perturbations of irreducible linear Anosov diffeomorphisms of the torus with simple spectrum, having all points regular in the sense of Oseledets, is a sufficient condition for smooth conjugacy to the linear model. It is also proved on the basis of some counterexamples that the irreducibility hypothesis is necessary.
