    Let \(L^ p(R_ +,w)\) be the space with norm \(\| f\|=\int^ \infty_ 0| fw|^ pdx)^{1/p}\), \(w\in{\mathfrak A}_ p\) defined by \[ \sup_{0<a<b<\infty}(\log(b/a))^{-1}\left(\int^ b_ aw(y)^ pdy/y\right)^{1/p} \left(\int^ b_ aw(y)^{- q}dy/y\right)^{1/q}<\infty \] \((1/p+1/q=1)\) and \(w_ \mu(x)=| x|^{\mu-1/p}w(| x|)\). The paper gives the following theorem which sharpens the result obtained by \textit{P. G. Rooney} [Glasgow Math. J. 28, 5-9 (1986; Zbl 0596.47033)]: If \(w\in{\mathfrak A}_ p\) and \(0<\mu<1\), then both the spectrum and the essential spectrum of \(S_ +\) defined by \((S_ +f)(x)=1/\pi i\int^ \infty_ 0(t-x)^{-1}f(t)dt\) on \(L^ p(R_ +,w_ \mu)\) coincide with the circular arc with the endpoints \(\pm 1\) and passing through \(i\text{cot}\pi\mu\).
