The authors propose a model for the morphogenesis of the posterior lateral line in zebrafish. The description is hybrid: discrete for individual cells involved in the morphogenesis process (with their total number of order \(100\)), and continuous for concentrations of chemotactic molecules. Then, an analysis of steady states and their stability is done, and this looks consistent with the formation of the neuromasts -- a biological structure. Dynamic simulations (with the use of a finite difference scheme) are made, and they show that model describes the evolution of cell aggregates quite accurately.
