Let \({\mathcal E}\) denote a rigid analytic space parametrizing overconvergent \(p\)-adic eigenforms of finite slope (the eigencurve constructed by \textit{R. Coleman} and \textit{B. Mazur} [The eigencurve, Cambridge: Cambridge University Press. Lond. Math. Soc. Lect. Note Ser. 254, 1--113 (1998; Zbl 0932.11030)]. The geometry of \({\mathcal E}\) remains mysterious. Coleman and Mazur asked whether \({\mathcal E}\) has any ``holes''. The authors answer their question in the negative for the \(2\)-adic eigencurve of tame level 1. They prove that any family of overconvergent 2-adic eigenforms of tame level 1 and finite slope over the punctured disc cannot converge over the puncture to an overconvergent eigenform of infinite slope. The means that, in the case \(p= 2\), the eigencurve is proper over weight space (satisfies the valuative criterion of properness).
