The inverse Galois problem asks whether, for an arbitrary finite group \(G\), there exists a Galois extension \(L/\mathbb{Q}\) with Galois group isomorphic to \(G\); such an extension is called a \(G\)-extension of \(\mathbb{Q}\). A natural way to obtain these extensions is by rational specializations of Galois covers of \(\mathbb{P}^1_{\mathbb{Q}}\) with Galois group \(G\) using Hilbert's irreducibility theorem. The paper under review studies ``what kind'' of \(G\)-extensions of \(\mathbb{Q}\) arise by specialization of such a cover. The authors consider various \(G\)-covers of \(\mathbb{P}^1_{\mathbb{Q}}\) and they look for rational \(G\)-specializations which satisfy some extra prescribed local conditions at finitely many primes, such as non-ramification or tameness. Most of the covers they treat are obtained by the so-called rigidity method with three rational branch points, deduced from a rigid triple of rational conjugacy classes in \(G\).
