The main purpose of the paper is to give a simpler proof of a version of the Fuglede-Putnam theorem due to \textit{M. H. Mortad} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 131, No. 10, 3135--3141 (2003; Zbl 1049.47019)], which only involves unbounded linear operators. The proof is based on the concept of bounding sequences.
