Modulation spaces, as introduced by Feichtinger about 20 years ago, play an increasing role in Gabor analysis. It is proved that a class of Fourier multipliers, including the Hilbert transform, act boundedly on modulation spaces. In contrast, these multipliers are in general unbounded on \(L^p\).
