    \textit{P. Erdős}, \textit{C. L. Stewart} and \textit{R. Tijdeman} [Compos. Math. 66, 37--56 (1988; Zbl 0639.10014)] showed that for a given \(n\) there exist \(F\in {\mathbb Z}[x]\) of degree \(n\), such that if s is large enough, then the number of integer solutions \((x,z_ 1,\dots,z_ s)\) of the equation \((*)\quad F(x)=p_ 1^{z_ 1}\dots p_ s^{z_ s}\) (where \(p_ 1,\dots,p_ s\) are rational primes) is exponentially large in terms of \(n\) and \(s\). The polynomials they have constructed have rational integer roots. The purpose of the paper is to prove the same statement for polynomials, irreducible over \(\mathbb Q\), one root of which generates a given algebraic number field of degree \(n\). The lower bound (in terms of \(n\) and \(s\)) obtained for the number of solutions of (*) is almost as strong as the bound obtained by Erdős, Stewart and Tijdeman. The main tool in the proof is a strong lower estimate for the number of integral ideals of an algebraic number field, the norm of which, and the norm of the prime ideal divisors of which are under a prescribed bound.
