Let \(G\) be a finite group and let \(p\) be a prime. The McKay conjecture predicts that the number of irreducible characters of \(p\)-degree of \(G\) can be computed locally, being equal to the size of the same set of characters of the normalizer of a Sylow \(p\)-subgroup of \(G\). Let \(q \not =p\) be another prime, let \(\mathrm{IBr}(G)=\mathrm{IBr}_{q}(G)\) be the set of irreducible \(q\)-Brauer characters of \(G\) and let \(\mathrm{IBr}_{p'}(G)\) be the set of irreducible \(q\)-Brauer characters of \(G\) with degree coprime to \(p\). The main results in the paper under review are. Theorem A: Let \(G\) be a finite group and let \(P \in \mathrm{Syl}_{p}(G)\), where \(p >3\). Suppose that \(N_{G}(P)=PQ\), where \(Q\) is a \(q\)-group with \(q \not =p\), and assume that \(G\) is \(q\)-solvable. If \(\chi \in \mathrm{IBrp}(G)\), then \(\chi_{N_{G}(P)} = \mu + \Delta\), where \(\mu \in \mathrm{IBrp}_{p'}(NG (P ))\) and \(\Delta\) is a possibly zero \(q\)-Brauer character all whose irreducible constituents have degree divisible by \(p\). Furthermore, the map \(\chi \mapsto \mu\) is a bijection from \(\mathrm{IBr}_{p'}(G)\) to \(\mathrm{IBr}_{p'}(N_{G}(P))\). Theorem B: Let \(G\) be a finite group and let \(P \in \mathrm{Syl}_{p}(G)\), where \(p>3\). Suppose that \(N_{G}(P)=PQ\), where \(Q\) is a \(q\)-group with \(q \not = p\). If \(G\) is \(q\)-solvable, then \(G\) is solvable. Theorem C: Let \(G\) be a finite group and let \(P \in \mathrm{Syl}_{p}(G)\), where \(p >3\). Suppose that \(G\) is \(q\)-solvable, where \(q \not =p\) is a prime. Then \(\mathrm{IBr}_{p'}(G \, | \, 1_{P}) =\{1_{G} \}\) if and only if \(N_{G}(P) = PQ\), where \(Q\) is a \(q\)-group. In particular, Theorem A provides, under certain conditions, a natural McKay correspondence for irreducible \(q\)-Brauer characters given by character restriction.
