Although many mathematical models describing blood flow in the arteries are represented by linear equations, the increasingly strong evidence has been appeared that nonlinear effects have to be taken into account because they provide a better description of the experimental phenomena. Using Lie symmetry approach, the author considers the derivation of exact solutions for a partial differential equation modeling arterial deformation in large arteries, and shows that for any values of the parameters appearing in the equation, solutions can be obtained in terms of the first Painlevé transcendent despite on the non-integrability of the equation. A connection of the equation under the study with the second Painlevé equation is established via an approximation by the Korteweg-de Vries equation.
