Jørgensen subgroups of the Picard group (Q2471365): Difference between revisions

The Jørgensen number of a rank two subgroup \(G\) of the Möbius group PSL\((2,{\mathbb{C}})\) is defined by \(\inf\{| \text{ tr}^2 A-4| +| \text{ tr}[A,B]-2| : \langle A,B \rangle=G\}\). In this paper the authors consider the rank two subgroups of the Picard group PSL\((2,{\mathbb{Z}}+i{\mathbb{Z}})\) with Jørgensen number 1, and determine their conjugate classes in the Picard group and in the Möbius group by means of a certain family of rank two subgroups of the Picard group. It was shown that the Jørgensen number of the Whitehead link group is two by \textit{H. Sato} [Bol. Soc. Mat. Mex., III. Ser. 10, Spec. Iss., 495--502 (2004; Zbl 1095.30036)]. Another brief proof of this is also given in this paper.
