The paper studies the penetration of a liquid through a porous material accompanied by swelling (possible applications: wool scouring, rice boiling, etc.). The swelling region is confined by two free boundaries: the penetration front and the outer surface. Moisture concentration and mass balance provide the free boundary conditions. The liquid is transported through the material by a diffusive mechanism. Some explicit solutions are calculated.
