The author proves the following theorem. Let \(\pi\) be a set of primes and let \(G\) be a finite irreducible \(\pi\)-separable subgroup of \(\text{GL}(n,\mathbb{C})\). Assume that there is no prime \(p\in\pi\) and prime power \(q\) dividing \(n\) such that \(q\equiv 1,-1\) or \(0\pmod p\). Then \(G\) has a normal Abelian Hall \(\pi\)-subgroup. The case where \(\pi=\{p\}\) was proved by \textit{D. L. Winter} [Ill. J. Math. 15, 425-428 (1971; Zbl 0215.10302)] under the additional assumption that \(G\) is solvable. It was conjectured that the hypothesis of solvability could be dropped (that is, the theorem was true for \(p\)-solvable groups), but previously only partial results were obtained. Unlike earlier results, the proof in the present paper uses the classification of finite simple groups.
