In this paper the authors consider a family \(X = (X_1,\dots , X_m)\) of bounded Lipschitz continuous vector fields on \(R^n\). They prove that if \(E\) is a set of finite \(X\)-perimeter, then its \(X\)-perimeter is the limit of the \(X\)-perimeters of a sequence of Euclidean polhyedra approximating the set \(E\) in the \(L^1\) norm. This result extends to Carnot--Carathéodory geometry a classical theorem of E. De Giorgi.
