Das in der vorstehend besprochenen Arbeit behandelte \textit{Mayer}sche Problem wird dahin verallgemeinert, daß\^^Mstatt der dort vorgesehen \(2n+1\) Nebenbedingungen der Form \[ \Psi _{\mu }(x_1, y(x_1); \quad x_2, y(x_2)) = 0 \] nur deren \(p < 2n+1\) gefordert werden. Zu den dort gegeben notwendigen Bedingungen treten noch natürliche Randbedingungen hinzu. So lautet z. B. die Multiplikatorregel: \[ F_{y'_i} = \int ^x_{x_1} F_{y_i} dx + e_i,\quad \Phi _{\alpha } = 0, \] \[ \left ( F - \sum ^n_{i=1} y'_iF_{y'_i}\right ) dx + \left.\sum ^n_{i=1} F_{y'_i} dy\right | ^2_1 + \lambda _0 dy = 0 \] für alle \(d\Psi _{\mu } = 0 (\mu = 1,\dots, p)\) genügenden \(dx_1, dy_{i1}, dx_2, dy_{i2}\), und konstantes \(\lambda _0\). Ist nun \(E_0\) eine Lösung der hier behandelten Aufgabe, so wird eine Aufgabe der in der vorstehend besprochenen Arbeit betrachteten Art, die durch \(E_0\) ebenfalls gelöst wird, dadurch hergestellt, daß\ den \(p\) gegebenen Nebenbedingungen \((2n+1-p)\) weitere, \(\Psi _{\tau }\), derart hinzugefügt werden, daß\ \(\Psi _{\tau }(x_1, y_1; x_2, y_2)\) \((\tau = p+1,\dots, 2n+1)\) für die Randwerte von \(E_0\) verschwinden und die Determinante \[ \begin{vmatrix} g_{x_1} & g_{y_{i1}} & g_{x_2} & g_{y_{i2}} \\ \Psi _{\varrho x_1} & \Psi _{\varrho y_{i1}} & \Psi _{\varrho x_2} & \Psi _{\varrho y_{i2}}\end{vmatrix} \] längs \(E_0\) nicht verschwindet. Dadurch wird ermöglicht, ganz analoge hinreichende Bedingungen wie in dem bereits behandelten Fall zu gewinnen.
