An automorphism \(\varphi\) of a group \(G\) is said to be fixed-point-free if \(C_{G}(\varphi)=1\). If \(G\) is finite then the map \(G \rightarrow G \; \; g \mapsto g^{-1}g^{\varphi}\) is surjective so, for every \(g\in G\), the following relation holds: \((\ast) \;\;\; g\cdot g^{\varphi} \cdot \,\dots\, \cdot g^{\varphi^{n-1}}=1\). The relation \((\ast)\) can be described by introducing the polynomial \(f(X)=1+X+\dots+X^{n-1}\) and simply writing \(f(\varphi)=0\). In the paper under review, the author aims to generalize the relation \((\ast)\) to the case where \(G\) is a finite group and \(f(X)=a_{0}+a_{1}X+\dots+a_{d}X^{d} \in \mathbb{Z}[X]\) is any polynomial with integer coefficients. The main theorem is: Let \(G\) be a finite group with a coprime automorphism \(\varphi\) that fixes \(m\) elements and let \(f(X) \in \mathbb{Z}[X]\) be a primitive polynomial. If \(f(\varphi)=0\), then the soluble radical of \(G\) has \((d, m)\)-bounded index in \(G\) and has \((d,h_{0})\)-bounded Fitting height, where \(h_{0}\) is the Fitting height of \(C_{G}(\varphi)\).
