This paper proposes and analyzes an adaptive finite element scheme for the advection-reaction-diffusion equation. This scheme is based on a stabilized finite element method combined with a residual error estimator. It is shown that the estimator is reliable and global upper and local lower error estimates are rigorously proved. Finally, a large set of numerical experiments shows the effectiveness of the method.
