Let \(E_{G}\) be a holomorphic \(G\)-bundle over a compact connected Kähler manifold \((M,w)\), where \(G\) is a complex connected reductive linear algebraic group. Assume that we have a homomorphism \(\rho\) of \(G\) into another complex connected reductive linear group \(H\). Then \(E_{H}=(E_{G}\times H)/G\) is a holomorphic principal \(H\)-bundle obtained by extending as usual the action of \(G\) via \(\rho\). If \(E_{G}\) is polystable, then the author and \textit{B. Anchouche} have found conditions [Am. J. Math. 123, 207--228 (2001; Zbl 1007.53026)], under which \(E_{H}\) is also polystable. They proved that if \(E_{G}\) is polystable and \(\rho\) sends the connected component containing the identity of the center of \(G\) to the connected component containing the identity of the center of \(H\), i.e., \((*)\) \(\rho (Z_{o}(G))\subset Z_{o}(H)\), then \(E_{H}\) is polystable. In this paper the author studies what other conditions one should have to add to the above in order to assure that \(E_{H}\) is actually stable. Using the holonomy of the unique Einstein-Hermitian connection on \(E_{G}\), he constructs a holomorphic reduction of the structure group to the reductive subgroup, \(N\), defined by the Zariski closure of the holonomy group. Then, he proves that if \(E_{G}\) is polystable and in addition to (*) the image \(\rho (N)\) of \(N\) is not contained in any proper parabolic subgroup of \(H\), then \(E_{H}\) is stable. In particular, if \(E_{G}\) does not admit any reduction of the structure group to any proper reductive subgroup of \(G\) and \(\rho (G)\) is not contained in any proper parabolic subgroup of \(H\), then \(E_{H}\) is stable, (corollary 4.2). Finally, he gives examples of applications of this corollary in some interesting concrete situations.
