The author proves that the function \(f\,:\,[1,\,\infty)\rightarrow \mathbb{R}\) given by \(f(x)=\ln \Gamma(x+1)-x\ln x +x-\ln \sqrt{2\pi}-\frac{1}{2}\,\ln\Big(x+\frac{1}{6}\Big)\) is convex and strictly decreasing. Using this result the author obtains sharp estimates for the function \(\Gamma(x+1)\) and the digamma function \(\psi(x)=\frac{\Gamma^{\prime}(x)}{\Gamma(x)}\). Then the author obtains a new type of Stirling series for the \(n!\) which extends the well known Gosper's formula.
