Let \(p\) be a prime not dividing the degree of an abelian extension \(F/k\) of number fields; under an additional condition on the splitting of infinite primes in \(F/k\), the author shows that there exist infinitely many abelian \(p\)-extensions \(K/F\), linearly disjoint over \(F\) and abelian over \(k\), such that certain parts of the \(p\)-class group of \(F\) (excluding e.g. the classes generated by ideals from \(k)\) capitulate in \(K\). He explains why the restrictions he made are necessary, and distills a conjecture on the class group of the maximal abelian extension of \(k\) from the experience gained by his construction.
