It is the aim of the paper under review to study the Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation problem for algebras of the form \(H_B^\infty:=\mathbb{C}+BH^\infty\), where \(B\) is an inner function and \(\mathbb{C}\) denotes the span of the constant functions in \(H^\infty\). The subspaces of \(L^p\) which are invariant under \(H_B^\infty\) are examined. Analogues of the Helson-Lowdenslager and Lax-Halmos theorems are given in this context. The author computes the distance between an element \(f\in L^\infty\) and the ideal \(\mathcal{I}=EH^\infty\cap\mathcal{A}\), where \(E\) is the finite Blaschke product with zero set \(\{z_1,\dots,z_n\}\subset\mathbb{D}\) (the open unit disk) and \(\mathcal{A}\) is a weak\({}^*\)-closed, unital subalgebra of \(H^\infty\) with predual factorization. As in the approach proposed by \textit{D.\,Sarason} in [Trans.\ Am.\ Math.\ Soc.\ 127, 179--203 (1967; Zbl 0145.39303)], the distance formula is then used to prove a Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation theorem for the algebra \(\mathcal{A}\). Specializing for the case \(\mathcal{A}=H_B^\infty\), this theorem can be stated as follows: given \(z_1,\dots,z_n\in\mathbb{D}\) and complex numbers \(w_1,\dots,w_n\), there exists a function \(f\in H_B^\infty\) such that \(f(z_j)=w_j\;(j=1,\dots,n)\) if and only if the matrices \([(1-w_i\bar{w_j})K^v(z_i,z_j)]_{i,j=1}^n\) are positive for all unit vectors \(v\in H^2\ominus BH^2\) (\(K^v\) denotes the kernel function \((z,w)\mapsto K^v(z,w):=v(z)\overline{v(w)}+{B(z)\overline{B(w)}\over 1-z\bar{w}}\)). In the last part, a detailed investigation on the \(C^*\)-envelope (introduced by \textit{W.\,Arveson} in [Acta Math.\ 128, 271--308 (1972; Zbl 0245.46098)]) of \(H_B^\infty/\mathcal{I}\) (here, \(B\) denotes a finite Blaschke product) is used to show that the scalar-valued interpolation result mentioned above is not valid for the matrix-valued case. We want to finally remark that the general approach followed by the paper under review recovers several results from \textit{K.\,R.\thinspace Davidson, V.\,I.\thinspace Paulsen, M.\,Raghupathi} and \textit{D.\,Singh} [Indiana Univ.\ Math.\ J.\ 58, No.\,2, 709--732 (2009; Zbl 1167.47013)].
