A mapping \(f\) of a domain \(D \subset \mathbb{R}^n\) into \(\overline{\mathbb{R}}^n\) is called a ring \(Q\)-mapping at a point \(x_o \in D\) if \[ M\big(f(\Gamma(S_1,S_2;R))\big)\leq \int_R Q(x)\eta(|x-x_o|)^n \, dm(x) \] holds for each annulus domain \(R\) centered at \(x_o\) with boundary spheres \(S_1\) and \(S_2\) and all measurable functions \(\eta : (r_1,r_2) \rightarrow [0,\infty]\) such that \(\int_{r_1}^{r_2} \eta \,ds \geq 1\). Here \(r_i\) is the radius of \(S_i\), \(M\) is the \(n\)-modulus and \(Q\) is a non-negative measurable function in \(D\). Assuming that the function \(Q\) is of finite mean oscillation, the authors derive a necessary and sufficient condition for a family of discrete and open \(Q\)-ring mappings \(f\) to be equicontinuous at \(x_o\). The condition is stated in terms of the spherical metric \(h\) in \(\overline{\mathbb{R}}^n\) and reads as \[ h\big(f(x),f(x_o)\big) \leq \bigg(\tau_n^{-1}\bigg(C\bigg(\log \log \frac{1}{|x-x_o|}\bigg)^{1-n}\bigg)\bigg)^{-1} \] for some \(C>0\) and \(x\) sufficiently close to \(x_o\). Here \(\tau_n\) is the \(n\)-capacity associated with the Teichmüller ring domain. A similar equicontinuity result is also given in terms of the integral average of \(Q\) on spheres. The proofs are not based on the construction of a non-equicontinuous family, but the equicontinuity property of a family is used to construct suitable functions \(\eta\).
