The authors investigate some type of Besov spaces defined on either \((\varepsilon,\delta)\)-domains or on the boundary of Lipschitz domains. The reader has to be careful here with the understanding of the notion of Besov space. The spaces are introduced as subspaces of \(L_p\), also in the case \(0 <p< 1\). Many times, Besov spaces with \(0 <p< 1\) are introduced as subsets of \(S'\), ending up with different classes in general. The main results of the authors consist in \(\bullet\) a characterization of \(B^s_{p,q}({\mathbb R}^n)\) in terms of non-smooth atoms; \(\bullet\) a characterization of \(B^s_{p,q}(\Gamma)\) in terms of non-smooth atoms, where \(\Gamma\) denotes the boundary of a bounded Lipschitz domain; \(\bullet\) the boundedness and surjectivity of the trace operator as a mapping from \(B^{s+1/p}_{p,q}(\Omega)\) onto \(B^s_{p,q}(\Gamma)\) for bounded Lipschitz domains with boundary \(\Gamma\) and \(0< s< 1\); \(\bullet\) interesting new sufficient conditions for domains \(\Omega\) such that the associated characteristic function \({\mathcal X}_\Omega\) is a pointwise multiplier for \(B^s_{p,q}({\mathbb R}^n)\).
