In this paper, the author criticizes the general assumption that the lunar eclipse of March 13, AD 62, can be used to determine the life span of Hero of Alexandria. In fact, using linguistic and statistical methods, the author shows that, even relaxing the interpretation of the text in \textit{Dioptra} 35, it is not all unreasonable to think that the eclipse, which describes Hero, was chosen by chance.
