A new time-accurate finite-difference numerical method for solving incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is presented with primitive variables as the unknowns. The numerical scheme is a Crank-Nicolson implicit treatment of all terms of the equations with central differencing for space derivatives. The pressure and the nonlinearities in convection terms are not lagged. To obtain the incompressible solution at the advanced time level a continuous auxiliary system is introduced in pseudo time with artificial compressibility. Time-accurate solutions are presented for two-dimensional fluid flows in a square cavity with an impulsively starting lid and with an oscillating lid.
