As stated in the abstract this paper is concerned with the rigorous proof of the existence ``of ground state solutions of a Gross-Pitaevskii equation modeling the dynamics of pumped Bose-Einstein condensates''. The analysis of this type of condensates presents new mathematical challenges because of the presence in the model of pumping and dumping terms which somewhat prevent the use of standard or variational or pde methods. The authors adopt instead a perturbation method with a small parameter \(\varepsilon\) multiplying the dissipation and pumping term. Theorem 1.1 establishes the existence of a solitary wave solution for small values of \(\varepsilon\). Theorem 1.2 is concerned with the existence of a unique global solution of the Cauchy problem in appropriate Sobolev spaces.
