Data mining and statistics - introduction (Q1861613): Difference between revisions

This is an introduction article to an issue of \textit{Computational Statistics} devoted to the Augsburg Symposium on Data Mining and Statistics. The authors disclose their concept of Data Mining (DM) and the aims of the symposium. It is noted that whence DM means processing and analysis of huge data sets, the sets presented at the symposium were generally not large. The conclusion of the authors is ``We look forward to more progress in DM through a greater contribution from statistical ideas''.
