The author gives a formula for the irreducible projective representations of \(S_ n\) (and \(A_ n)\) as linear combinations - in the representation ring - of certain representations induced from Clifford modules; it was motivated by a formula for the ordinary irreducible representations of \(S_ n\) due to Bernstein [see \textit{A. V. Zelevinsky}: Representations of finite classical groups (Lect. Notes Math. 869, 1981; Zbl 0465.20009), p. 69].
