The involved micro-constituents are identified to obtain an expression that links the relevant variables at the microscopical level to the compaction of the solid phase. Thereafter, the governing equations of a biphasic compressible continuum based on the theory of porous media are reiterated. The authors emphasize that the formulation of mass balance for different phases in terms of volumetric logarithmic strains accounts for compressibility changes. As a result, the entropy inequality is considered in terms of three independent dissipative mechanisms: a) deformation of the solid phase; b) intrinsic compressibility in the solid phase; c) interaction between the phases (Darcy flow). The paper is concluded by a numerical example of volumetric deformation-pressure response of a fluid-saturated fiber composite specimen. For simplicity, the authors consider the solid space to be isotropic.
