The paper is devoted to the development and application of a regularized method for solving the sideways heat equation, using Mayer wavelets. The main purpose of the development is to improve estimations of the surface temperature and heat flux. According to the optimality results of general regularization theory, it is concluded, that the error estimates on the surface temperature and the heat flux are order optimal. A wavelet dual least squares method is applied to a general sideways parabolic equation for determining the surface temperature and the surface heat flux. Connecting Mayer wavelet bases with a special projecting dual squares method, a regularized solution is obtained. Meanwhile, order optimal error estimates between the approximate solution and exact solution are proved.
