The authors consider two partial difference equations \[ u(i+1,j)+ bu(i,j+1)+ cu(i,j)= f(i,j),\tag{1} \] and \[ u(i+1,j+1)+ au(i+1,j)+ bu(i,j+1)+ cu(i,j)= f(i,j),\quad i,j=0,1,2,\dots,\tag{2} \] where \(a\), \(b\) and \(c\) are real numbers, and \(f\) is a real function. Sufficient conditions for the boundedness or the subexponential decay of solutions of (1) and (2) are obtained. Explicit necessary and sufficient conditions in terms of the coefficients \(b\) and \(c\), for the trivial solution of the homogeneous equation (1) (when \(f\equiv 0\)) to be stable or asymptotically stable are given.
