The authors consider quasistatic motion and stability of a single degree of freedom elastic system undergoing frictional slip. They adopt rate and state dependent frictional constitutive relations. Their analysis uses the Hopf bifurcation technique, direct determination of phase plane trajectories, Lyapunv methods and numerical integration. The paper contains many numerical results and comparisons with experiments.
