Let \(A\) and \(B\) Jordan algebras over a field of characteristic not two. A bijection \(\phi : A \to B\) is called a Jordan map if it preserves the Jordan product. The question of whether Jordan maps between special Jordan algebras are additive has been studied by many authors. By using spectral theory, \textit{R.-L.\thinspace An} and \textit{J.-C.\thinspace Hou} [Taiwanese J.~Math.\ 10, No.\,1, 45--64 (2006; Zbl 1107.46047)] proved that every Jordan map on the Banach Jordan algebra of self-adjoint operators on a complex Hilbert space is additive. In [Linear Algebra Appl.\ 426, No.\,1, 190--198 (2007; Zbl 1127.16029)], the author extended that result to standard Jordan operator algebras using a purely algebraic approach. In the present paper, he proves that a Jordan map \(\phi\) between general Jordan algebras \(A\) and \(B\) is additive if \(A\) contains a nontrivial idempotent \(p\) such that the corresponding Peirce spaces satisfy some regularity conditions, which extends almost all the previous results about additivity of Jordan maps.
