From the introduction: The first example of a non-abelian group code was constructed in [the first author et al., Coding theory and applications. 4th int. Castle Meeting, ICMCTA, Palmela Castle, Portugal, 2014, CIM Ser. Math. Sci. 3, 203--208 (2015; Zbl 1352.94081), J. Math. Sci., New York 223, No. 5, 504--507 (2017; Zbl 1386.94071); translation from Fundam. Prikl. Mat. 20, No. 1, 17--22 (2015)] using a computer \((S_4\)-code of dimension 9 over the field \(\mathbb F_5)\). Later, examples of non-abelian \(S_4\)-codes and \(\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb F_3)\)-codes over the fields \(\mathbb F_3\) [the first author et al., Non-abelian group codes, Uch. Zap. Orlovsk. Gos. Univ. 6, 73--79 (2012)] and \(\mathbb F_2\) [\textit{V. T. Markov}, Abelian and non-abelian group codes over noncommutative groups, (Russian) in: Algebra and Number Theory: Contemporary Problems and Applications, Proc. of the XIIth Int. Conf. dedicated to 80th birthday of Prof. Victor Nikolaevich Latyshev. Tula, 2014, L. N. Tolstoy TGPU, Tula, p. 200--203 (2014)] were also found. In [Markov, loc. cit.], a conjecture was stated that there exist non-abelian \(\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb F_3)\)-codes of dimension 4 over any field \(\mathbb F_p\) with \(p\ge 5\) (at the moment it was verified by computer search for all primes p from 5 to 97). The main result of the present note is the following theorem, which implies, in particular, that the stated conjecture is valid. Theorem. Let \(p\) be a prime and let either \(G = S_4\) and \(p\ge 3\) or \(G = \mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb F_3)\) and \(p\ge 5\). Then there exists a non-abelian \(G\)-code over the field \(\mathbb F_p\) having dimension 9 or 4, respectively. Combining this theorem, the aforementioned examples of non-abelian group codes, and Theorem 5.1 in [the first author et al., J. Algebra Appl. 12, No. 7, Article ID 1350037, 20 p. (2013; Zbl 1320.94112)] stating that if all \(G\)-codes over a field \(F\) are abelian, then all \(G\)-codes over any subfield of \(F\) are also abelian, the following corollary is deduced. Corollary. There exist non-abelian group codes of length 24 over any finite field.
