Every variety of semigroups which satisfies a permutation identity \(x_ 1...x_ n=x_{1\pi}...x_{n\pi}\) such that either \(1\pi\) \(\neq 1\) or \(n\pi\) \(\neq n\) is finitely based. This result - as the author himself notices - was first obtained by \textit{A. Ya. Ajzenshtat} [Sovrem. Algebra 3, 3-12 (1975; Zbl 0321.20038)].
