This paper is concerned with the nonlinear three-term recurrence relation \[ x_{n+1}= f(x_n,x_{n-1}),\;n=0,1,2, \dots, \] where \(f\) is a continuous, positive, and decreasing function defined on \([0,\infty) \times [0,\infty) \setminus\{(0,0)\}\). Under various additional assumptions on \(f\), unbounded solutions, period 2 solutions and attractors are found. As applications, asymptotic stability of the equation \[ y_{n+1}={A\over y^p_n} +{1\over y^q_{n-1}},\;n=0,1,2,\dots;\;A,p,q\in(0,\infty), \] is discussed under various assumptions of the numbers \(A,p\) and \(q\).
