The author considers the hyperbolic operator \[ P=D^ m_ t+\sum^{m- 1}_{j=0}\sum_{| \alpha | \leq m-j}a_{j\alpha}(t,x)D_ x^{\alpha}D^ j_ t \] under the constant multiplicity assumption \[ \sigma^ m+\sum^{m-1}_{j=0}\sum_{| \alpha | =j}a_{j\alpha}(t,x)\eta^{\alpha}\sigma^ j=\prod^{k}_{j=1}(\sigma -\lambda_ j(t,x,\eta))^{m_ j}, \] with \(\lambda_ v\neq \lambda_ w\) for \(v\neq w\). The corresponding Cauchy problem is known to be well posed in the Gevrey classes of order \(s<1/\max \{(m_ j-1)/m_ j\}\). Here the author constructs a parametrix giving precise information on the Gevrey wave front set of the solutions; related systems of operators are also considered. The parametrix is expressed by the author as a multi-product of classical Fourier integral operators; an alternative construction has been given recently by \textit{L. Cattabriga} and \textit{L. Zanghirati} [''Fourier integral operators of infinite order and Gevrey spaces. Applications to the Cauchy problem for hyperbolic operators'', Proc. NATO ASI on Advances in Microlocal Analysis, 1985 (to appear)], which have used Fourier integral operators with amplitude of infinite order.
