The author shows that a necessary and sufficient condition for the convergence of formal solutions of analytic equations is given by an exponential condition which is a natural extension of a so-called Siegel condition. The result is applied to equations with small divisors, to yield a necessary and sufficient condition for the convergence of formal solutions.
