Let \(G\neq\varnothing\) resp. \(H\neq\varnothing\) be a Lie group resp. a Lie subgroup of \(G\). The authors of the paper under review treat deformations of a Lie group homomorphism \(\phi:H\rightarrow G\) and of the Lie subgroup \(H\) of \(G\). Precisely, they search the conditions of triviality of these deformations computing certain classes in differentiable cohomology groups relative to \(H\), \(G\) and \(\phi\). We mean here by triviality of \(\phi\)'s deformation a smooth Lie group homomorphism family \(\phi_\epsilon:H\rightarrow G\) with \(\epsilon\in I\) (\(I\) an interval containing \(0)\) such that: \[ \phi_\epsilon\left(h\right)=g_\epsilon\phi_0\left(g_\epsilon\right)^{-1}\text{ for all }h\in H, \] where \(\epsilon\mapsto g_\epsilon\) is a smooth curve in \(G\) taking its origin on the identity element. A similar definition is given in the paper for the deformation of \(H\) in terms of the embedding of \(H\) in \(G\). Remarkable results are obtained when \(H\) is a compact Lie group, that is to say, all deformations of \(\phi\) and of \(H\) are trivial. The techniques used by them are based on Moser's deformation argument in symplectic geometry. Finally, the authors explain how their approaches are different from those of some papers cited in the references dealing with the same topics in order to give more general results.
