A Euclidean lattice is extreme, if its density achieves a local maximum. Voronoi characterises extreme lattices as those that are perfect and eutactic. There are only finitely many similarity classes of perfect lattices in a given dimension and they have been determined up to dimension 8 [see \textit{M. Sikirić Dutour, A. Schürmann} and \textit{F. Vallentin}, ``Classification of eight-dimensional perfect forms'', Electron. Res. Announc. Am. Math. Soc. 13, 21--32 (2007; Zbl 1186.11039)]. The paper describes an algorithm to test eutaxy and shows that only 2408 of the 10916 perfect lattices in dimension 8 are also eutactic and hence extreme.
