The author studies the local behavior at the origin of the singular differential system \[ \dot{y}=-y,\quad 2z\dot{z}=z^2+\beta(y), \] where \(\beta:\mathbb{R}^{n+1}\to\mathbb{R}\) is given by \[ \beta(y)=-y_1^2-y_2^2-\cdots-y_\nu^2 + y_{\nu+1}^2+\cdots+y_{n-1}^2 + r(y) \] with higher order terms \(r(y)\). This equation arises as a local normal form for a continuous Newton method at a so called folded zero. The main results give a complete characterization of the local dynamics of the singular differential equation. An example illustrates the results.
