This paper is based on an approach of obtaining mimetic finite difference discretizations for divergence and gradient operators by achieving the same order of accuracy on the boundary and the inner grid points. The authors use the second-order version of these operators to develop a new mimetic finite difference method for the steady-state diffusion equation. The proposed theoretical and numerical method is well demonstrated and the quadratic convergence rate of the method is proved. Two boundary value problems, in one and two dimensions, are used to show the efficiency of the proposed method.
