Let \(A\) be a semiprime algebra with \(\text{char\,}A\neq 2\). A left derivation of \(A\) is a linear \(d\colon A\to A\) so that \(d(xy)=xd(y)+yd(x)\) for all \(x,y\in A\); \(d\) is a Jordan left derivation when \(d(x^2)=2xd(x)\) for all \(x\in A\). Given such a \(d\), call \((g,d)\) a generalized left derivation when \(g\colon A\to A\) is linear and \(g(xy)=xg(y)+yd(x)\) for all \(x,y\in A\); \((g,d)\) is a generalized Jordan left derivation if \(g(x^2)=xg(x)+xd(x)\) for all \(x\in A\). The authors prove that any Jordan left derivation \(d\) is a derivation mapping \(A\) to its center and then use this result to show that any generalized Jordan left derivation \((g,d)\) is a generalized left derivation. The authors also prove that if \(A\) is prime and \((g,d)\) is a generalized Jordan left derivation satisfying \(g(x)^n=0\) for a fixed integer \(n\) and all \(x\in A\), then \(g=0\).
